Condition: |
abscess on back leg |
|
|
|
Remedies Used: |
Hepar Sulph Calc |
|
|
|
Description: |
Magic, a 12 year
old American Domestic Shorthair cat, developed an abscess on his
back right leg. It became apparent that something was wrong with
this healthy male neutered cat when he would growl when jumping out
of his favorite easy chair. He was resistant to being touched, did
not want to be examined. This is contrary to his usual affectionate
nature. The growling when touched was an indication of the depth of
his discomfort. He isn't the growling type, so something was
obviously bothering him. He wouldn't let me examine him, so at that
point I didn't really know the extent or nature of the problem.
As a new homeopathy student (6
months only), I was hesitant to try to treat him alone, so called a
classmate, an experienced practicing veterinarian, Jessica Levy, who
had some veterinarian homeopathic training with Dr. Pitcairn, and
consulted with her. We decided to try a remedy I had on hand which
seemed to fit his state, Hepar sulph calc, 30C, wet. Our decision
was to see if he responded to that and if not, I would take him to
the veterinary clinic where she practiced, the next day, Saturday,
June 28th.
On the next day he wasn't much
better, was still obviously in pain and still growly. I got him into
his carrier, under his objection, and drove him to the Metro (Mpls)
area to the clinic. Jessica examined him and found the abscess which
to me looked to be huge, almost the size of a golf ball. She drained
the abscess, then gave him an IV of saline to dehydrate him. I
headed for a homeopathy supply store, got Hepar 200C and then took
him home. I ground up the 200 C with a mortar and pestle, gave it to
him wet. He seemed glad to drink the treated water.
He then climbed gingerly into
his favorite chair, curled up and went to sleep, sleeping for about
2 hours. When he woke, the abscess had burst and he began to clean
himself. When he got up to move to his favorite loveseat, I picked
up the soiled chair covers and cushions so I could wash them, then
put down clean linens on that chair. This was the beginning of his
healing process, he took a few days for the abscess to heal, but it
healed cleanly and quickly and has not since then been bothered by
any other health issues. |

Condition: |
Swollen tonsils |
|
|
|
Remedies Used: |
Baryta carb |

|
Description: |
This is the case of a 16 year
old male referred to me by his mother. I did not see him at this
time, she came in and described his situation to me. [I had worked
with both of them before, but not for many years.] I was
supposed to see this young man that day, but he was, by his and his
mother's admission, too sick to come into my office.
His mother came into my office
on a Monday afternoon to let me know he wouldn’t be in for his
appointment that he was sick and had been since Saturday night. That
night he had gone to bed at 10 pm, which for him was quite early. He
slept through the night through Sunday noon. By 6:30 pm he was back
in bed. He had previously had problems with his tonsils being
abscessed, according to his mother. They had previously taken him to
the local clinic where he was treated with antibiotics and sent
home. She didn't want to repeat that scenario. I offered to try to
help, since we had been studying out of Morrison's Desktop Companion
to Physical Pathology and had been discussing the treatment of acute
cases in class. Armed with my textbook and class notes, I asked her
how he had presented and how he was doing.
*His tonsils were swollen, on
the right side
* there was no pain
* there was a black and purple worm-like thing that had been hanging
out at a previous time, but that wasn't fully present at this time,
but she could see that there was the beginning of one this item
*thirstless
*fever--102.4 F
*exhausted, sleeping many hours--way more than normal for him
*hurt to swallow--neither cold, warm or hot drinks ameliorated, all
seemed to aggravate
*curled into a ball
*sleeping on left side, sometimes rolling to right
*covered in sleep
*would drink sips of juice and yellow/orange Gatorade
I asked about a coating on the
tongue, or if he complained of any specific kind of taste in his
mouth, tooth imprints on his tongue and if his hearing was impaired.
I was looking at Baryta Carb for the remedy, but didn't have any in
my kit nor did the local health food store have any either. I gave
her Hepar Sulph Calc, 200 C, dry, to take home, enough for one dose.
I told her that if that didn't help that she should go to Mpls and
get 200C Baryta Carb in the morning because that looked like the
best option for what she would be able to get. I gave her the name
and address of the store, she was familiar with it.
I called the next day, got the
young man, he was home, he was experiencing piercing pain, right
sided, still hurt to swallow anything, solids or liquids. His mom
had gone to get him the remedy and he had taken it, but wasn't
feeling much better.
I called the following day,
talked to Mom. She said he still wasn't coming-out of it, that she
was going to have to take him to the Dr. I told her she should do
that if she felt she needed to, and she said it was necessary
because the school demanded a Dr.'s note to re-admit to school.
When I talked with her a week
later, it had turned out that he had gotten better the day I'd
talked to her and that he hadn't gone to the Dr., but had returned
to school and had felt much better.
At this writing(12/27/03), there
has been no recurrence of symptoms. |

Condition: |
Wart on eyelid |
|
|
|
Remedies Used: |
Thuja, Hepar |
|
|
|
Description:

|
Marta, a German Shepherd dog, developed a
fleshy white wart on the upper eyelid. It was obviously bothering
her: she kept blinking and pawing her face so the wart started
bleeding. I gave her one dose of Thuja 30, dry. By the end of the
day the wart shrank and turned black. I thought it would just fall
off and it would be the end of it. Unfortunately a few days later
Marta tore it off while playing with another dog. I noticed the
problem when the sore became infected and looked like a developing
abscess. Hepar 200, dry, once, took care of it. |

Remedies Used: |
Arnica, Nat-sulph |
|
|
|
Description:
|
A 34 y.o. female consulted me after a car
accident. She was getting into a truck when it started moving;
she lost balance and fell on her head. When I saw her the next
day, the right side of her face was all black and the right eye
bloodshot. She was dizzy and had a headache. I prescribed
Arnica 200 3/day for 3 days. By the end of the week bruising
was completely gone, but the headache, although much better, wasn't.
Nat-sulph 6X, 4 times a day, until improvement settles in.
After 2 days on Nat-sulph, the headache was gone too. |

A 47 y.o. male consulted me after fracturing
right tibia while skiing 8 days ago. The knee swelled, the
whole foot from the knee down felt numb. No bruising.
When I saw him the swelling was gone, but he was still in great pain
and could hardly step on his foot. MRI showed 1 mm fracture.
Prescribed Symph 30C plussed, 3/day. After the 1st day the
pain was > 50%. After 3 days the pain was completely gone and
mobility restored 100%. |

A 30 y.o. male consulted me on the 2nd day with
what looked like a stomach flu. Sudden onset - woke up in the middle
of the night with vomiting and high fever. Vomited all day
long the next day ("I don't vomit easily"). Skin
hypersensitive to bed sheets. Energy very low. Deathly
pale. "I can't be sick, there is so much to do, I HAVE TO BE
AT WORK." Nux-v 30, plussed, every 2 hrs. 3 doses were
enough. |

Bell |

|
Description:
|
The mother of an 18 year old boy called me at
11 p.m. reporting the following: after having spent the weekend
camping in the mountains and swimming in mountain lakes her son
returned home with raging fever of 103 and dry cough. It was
almost impossible to make the mother articulate any symptoms; she
wasn't even sure if the boy was thirsty or not. I was debating
between Aconite and Belladonna, but finally gave him Bell 200 on the
assumption that Bell is a chronic of Calc-carb and this is what I
think his constitutional is. 30 minutes later the fever
dropped just a little bit, so she decided to give him Tylenol.
She called again the following morning to tell that the fever was
gone and her son went to school. Before, when he had a fever
that high, it would last for several days and almost always turn
into a bronchitis. |

Description:

Here's a case that I saw a couple of months ago: Young female cat,
spayed, long history of repeated episodes of urinary tract
inflammation. Treated with antibiotics each time, kept coming back.
Brought into the hospital for a last attempt at fixing this problem;
the owners love their cat and cannot stand to watch her strain in
discomfort, so were considering euthanasia. I kept the cat in
hospital for the day, and observed spasmodic straining in the litter
box. Each episode would last several minutes; then the cat would get
out of the litter box, eat and drink, and seem fairly comfortable.
Then another spasm would hit, and she'd get back in the box. She was
quite a nasty cat in hospital, and I didn't dare put my hand in the
cage with her. Nux-v 200C, 3 doses, cured. |

Condition: |
conjunctivitis |
|
|
|
Remedies Used: |
Pulsatilla |
|
|
|
Description: |
On Tuesday, June 8th,2004, a colleague told me about her
granddaughter. Her daughter had taken her granddaughter to the local
Urgent Care center with conjunctivitis, but they hadn't given the
little girl anything to take down the itching and redness.
Apparently the young mother had cleaned up the little girl before
taking her in so they didn't see the yellow-green matter coming out
of her eyes, just the redness. They were unwilling to give
antibiotics. This is a three-year-old girl, fair, who, by report,
had itching red eyes (sclera), with yellow-green matter coming from
them (innner canthi). Was feverish, crabby, didn't sleep well,
wanting to itch her eyes often. I suggested to the grandmother that
she get Pulsatilla 30C at the local health food store and give the
remedy 3 times a day, for no longer than 24 hours. I saw her next
day at work and she said the little girl's symptoms started to clear
after the first dose and seemed to be fine now. I asked a week later
about her granddaughter's progress and she told me that a few days
later the mom and daughter had spent the whole day outside in the
park and the 3 year old's eyes were bothering her again. One dose
cleared up the irritation. Since she seems sensitive to sun and
wind, I suggested they take the remedy with them on their upcoming
vacation in case she should need the remedy again while they are out
west and outside a lot. |
